A powerful 5.9 magnitude earthquake hit Harnai, Balochistan in Eastern Pakistan in the early hours of Thursday October 7.
41 people are dead and more than 200 are injured. Hundreds of houses, bridges and roads have been damaged and landsliding has caused limited access to villages.
The region already faces extreme poverty and limited resources, the earthquake only further exacerbates the need for aid in Pakistan.

Islamic Relief has been working in Harnai, Balochistan since early 2020. Our team has been in close coordination with District Administration and Disaster Management Authorities since the onset of the disaster.
We have supported the rescue of those who are injured as well as arranged for access to clean drinking water at nearby hospitals.
The earthquake hit the eastern and extremely poor district of Harnai in Balochistan, where we currently have an ongoing project enabling farmers to cultivate lands with drought-tolerant crops and gain better food security.
