Chilliwack, B.C. – Islamic Relief Canada, in collaboration with the City of Chilliwack and local community members, is aiming to plant 225 trees and shrubs tomorrow as part of its ecological restoration project in the Bell Slough area.

“After the devastating environmental impact of the recent wildfires in B.C., our team is on a mission to help support a greener province,” says Reyhana Patel, head of communications and government relations at Islamic Relief Canada.

“In Bell Slough, temperature changes, industrialization and agriculture have had a particularly negative impact on the environment, including on wildlife such as salmon. Our aim with this initiative is to engage with the Chilliwack community to help restore the greenery and wildlife that have been lost.”

Media members are invited to attend the Seeds of Hope tree-planting event on Saturday, October 16 from 1 pm to 3 pm at Bell Slough (46463 Ballam Road, Chilliwack).

The cost to plant a tree or shrub is $30. Funds raised from the planting of each tree in Chilliwack will go toward farmers planting a corresponding number of trees in Kashmir and the Palestinian territories.

To confirm your attendance or arrange an interview with the B.C. team, please contact Sanam Islam, communications manager, at [email protected] or call 437 970 5656.
